In this device, the horizontal electric field in the channel induced by the drain voltage and the vertical electric field induced by the gate voltage can be treated independently. However, the channel length of present-day devices is on the order of 0.2 um or less, which is indicated short-channel devices. There are several effects in these short-channel devices that influence and change the long-channel current-voltage characteristics. One such effect is a variation in the threshold voltage. The value of the threshold voltage is a function of the channel length. This variation must be considered in the design and fabrication of these devices. The threshold voltage also becomes a function of the drain voltage. As the drain voltage increases, the effective threshold voltage decreases. This effect also influences the current-voltage characteristics. The carrier mobility values are functions of the vertical electric field in the inversion layer. But we have assumed that the carrier mobilities and corresponding process condition parameters are constant. As the gate voltage and the vertical electric field increases, the carrier mobility decreases. This result directly influences the current-voltage characteristics of the device. Another effect that occurs in short-channel devices is velocity saturation. As the horizontal electric field increases, the velocity of the carriers reaches a constant value and will no longer increase with an increase in drain voltage. Velocity saturation will lower the Vds(sat) voltage value. The drain current also becomes approximately a linear function of the gate voltage in the saturation region rather than the quadratic function of gate voltage in the long-channel characteristics. September 26 Experiencing the Cultural ShockHeard before about the cultural shock, but never actually been experienced. Now it is my current status in recent days. June 03 Wake Up In This Sunny AfternoonI could even not remember when it was the last time I wrote something here. Actually it was last December I wrote a small story about the mutton soup and my childhood, and it looks like to be quite a long time till now. It really needs to make a decision for me to write something on the blog, and here I come. Indeed, it has been about half a year, and last time I sat still for writing, it was chilly outside, and at the moment, I am wearing a T-shirt and sweating hard! Comparing to the last term, I am enjoying a quite leisure time now, no too heavy burden, no irritating courses(like microwave engineering), everything goes just up to my taste. I finally can live as I like. On the other side, it is the leisure that drags me down. Suddenly did I feel lost. I could not wake up early in the morning now, nor fell asleep during the night. And I am pondering that, it is a fact that, my life used to be directed by some other explicit factors. It is true. When I was kid, my father arranged everything, there was always no need to worry about. Even in my college life, there were always tasks and assignments to be accomplished. Yet, when all these extorior conditions are striped, I lost my direction. I did not sometimes stop and think about what is the next step. And I understand that now, finally. Words from Tyler Durden ("Fight Club" Directed by David Fincher. Starred by Edward Norton, Brad Pitt) may describe my and even my generation's situation:
Tyler Durden was right. Our struggle is our lives. Anyway life goes, and we should move on. You can never expect a path directed not by yourself. So I wake up today, in this sunny afternoon.
December 29 Running Nose In the Windy DayIt is the last day before the short break of New Year's Day. Even we have finished almost the courses, we still have an experiment for antenna. I have to say it is quite a cold and windy day today even if the sun is shining above. It was said that if it rained today, the experiment would be cancelled due to the dangers of 220 volts power and the open-air circumustance on the highest floor of SEIEE buildings. However, when I woke up in the morning, I saw the shining sun smiling at me, what a bad news! And even worse, I felt that I perhaps caught a cold, with my running nose going high!
When I got the experiment court on the highest floor, it was about 1220 PM, and after about one hour waiting in the strong wind, the professor finally showed up. At this time, my nose was running high, and I felt sick because of my headache. The professor (nicknamed Uncle Root) briefly demonstrated the experiment apparatus and what we should do in the following experiments, and then began the experiment. When we were enjoying the 'exciting' and 'extraordinary' experiment (Actually half of the microwave network analysers don't work very well, we had to reboot them from time to time), Uncle Root disappeared. That's really a good news, we soon finished the experiment as fast as we could to end this god-damned in-wind experiment and ran away back to home.
The things now got worse, in the morning, I thought I probably caught a cold, at the moment, I am sure I would be in fever in a short time. Thank god I will finally be in illness. December 23 Dame de LotusLa chanson nouvelle d'Emilie Simon, la meilleure chanteuse.
Cette chanson est du genre de éléctronique, et mélangée de element de chinois.

Paroles:
Je suis enterée vivante Contente de moi Au dessus des obstacles lentes Contemple, contemple moi là Dame Dame, Dame de Lotus Je suis enterée vivante (Qu'importe les) Ni moins, ni plus Je suis enterée vivante (Aaahaha Dame de Lotus Ni moins, ni plus Dame de Lotus, Dame de Lotus December 10 Largest Spitting Cobra DiscoveredAfrica's Naja ashei snake (pictured) is not only the world's newest snake species—it's also the largest spitting cobra, scientists with the conservation nonprofit WildlifeDirect announced today.
Blood and tissue samples helped confirm what some snake experts have long believed: that these massive, aggressive, extremely venomous snakes—which can grow to more than 9 feet (274 centimeters) long—form a separate species.
Commonly known as Ashe's spitting cobra, the new species is named after one such expert: the late James Ashe, the founder of the Bio-Ken Snake Farm research center in Watamu, Kenya. Ashe believed that this coastal snake was different from any other.
Naja ashei takes its place among the 30 or so known cobra species, including the king cobra, which is the world's largest venomous snake.
(From National Geographic) November 11 In the Warm Autumn SunshineNovember 1st, I finally got the final results of my IELTS test. It was a 10-day-ago story, since I postponed to write down something about this until today. Like years before, it should be autumn now, and the weather ought to become cold, unfortunately it is still going like summer. I am still wearing T-shirts and a thin sportswear. We now are really experiencing the strikes of global warming. I thought I would attend the IELTS test in cool days, and in fact those days(Oct.20) were actually cool and I felt very comfortable when taking the test. It is these days that are turning back to late summer.
Some say taking that kind of test like IELTS, TOFEL, GRE or something is defintely a struggle. However, not to refer to TOFEL and GRE which I haven't experienced, IELTS test is not as difficult as people always say. Actually I enjoyed the experience of preparing it. Sometimes people tend to exaggerate the truth to show how they are different from others. When I heard about this kind of story, I take them for granted as a joke and people who are talking about this are merely acrobats that entertains the public. That's funny, and taking back to the courses we are learning, there are still many people are doing like this. What they want to show is how they can cover the coursework and defeat other opponents. And this is irrational. There is no barricade if you believe you can get over it. I think this is what taking IELTS test gives me as well as confidence.
By the way, the global warming does not only give us trouble, at least we can enjoy more sunshine,:-) even there seems no autumn at all. However, November 11th today is the 'Single's Festival' for young guys, hopefully I am not single since she knows but not be. Whatever, enjoy the warm autumn sunshine and take a rest. October 27 Fast-paced DaysIt has never been so busy like these days ever before. Since I have been determined to be straight A's, I have sacrificed so much to achieve this object. I know it should be a long time being like this. Long time have I been frustrated by the irritating courses. I have tried my best to do it better, but not even a little bit interested by them. I can hardly imagine how the microwaves work and how the Maxwell's Formulas get together to figure out the distribution of the electronic-magnetic field around the wires. Frustrated by the sequences of difficult problems unsolved, I cannot even find anything that could inspire my passion on this major.
Fast-paced days like this have continued and will continue throughout the whole grade 3. Sometimes I am not sure whether I could survive in this long-time struggle. Imprisoned in the line of dormintry-canteen-classroom, I found no excitement of life here. Forced back to do the assignment which I am unwilling to do, I am feeling very uneasy when I need to have a rest. This is a contradiction and there is no solution.
About one week ago, my cellphone charger was down, and I couldn't use my cellphone without power until I got a multiuse charger to finish these torturing days. It may be harsh without cellphones for some days, but when you get used to this, you may really feel free. And you can really concentrate yourself in your boring and fast-paced days. This may be an interlude during these endless days. :-) How wish I could give an end to all of these! October 23 Japanese Defeated on Hot Dog Contest 2007!It was an exciting moment on July 4th of this year's Hot Dog Contest, which I watched on EPSN. After 4 years nonstop trying, 24-year-old American hero Joey Chestnut finally became the champion, finished 66 hot dogs in 12 minutes, knocking off six-time winner Takeru Kobayashi, who finished with 63 and became the second. The new winner is also the champion of Chicken Wings Eating Contest, who can eat 182 chicken wings in 12 minutes!
Anyway the Hot Dog Contest is actually none of my business, but there is still a tremendous pleasure to see Japanese being defeated, and their ridiculous face, just like drowned mice, even though it is done by Americans. Joey Chestnut is crowned as American Hero to finally regain American's reputation. His perseverance deserve this name.
I have to say I will never participate this kind of contest to abuse myself and the enjoyment of eating. That's really terrible to eat hot dogs like that: wildly chewing, smashing, drinking water to help swallow, oh, I can't imagine! However, let them to present this kind of show and do bad to their stomaches, haha, and let us enjoy the party! October 14 Early Venus Had Oceans, May Have Been HabitableVenus, not Mars, may have been the most likely planet in the solar system to have also developed life, scientists say.
The cloud-shrouded planet most likely started with oceans much like Earth's, which evaporated as Venus heated up, according to new research. The oceans didn't disappear overnight, said David Grinspoon of the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. Speaking yesterday at a meeting of planetary scientists in Orlando, Florida, Grinspoon said that preliminary results of new computer models indicate Venus may have retained its oceans for a billion years after it formed, possibly longer. Prior models had indicated that rising Venusian temperatures had turned the oceans to steam within the planet's first 600 million years. The extra 400 million years are even more significant than they sound, Grinspoon added, because early Venus was constantly bombarded by asteroids, reducing the likelihood of life. The new finding suggests that the oceans existed for much longer after the asteroid bombardment tapered off. "There may have been a sizeable interval when [Venus] was habitable," he said. Today, however, Venus is about 100,000 times drier than Earth and is 860º F (460º C) at its surface, Grinspoon said. (From National Geographic) October 05 On AdvertisingNowadays, the advertisement have expanded their territory throught out our life. We can see them everywhere: on the street, on television, and on even on people's T-shirt. Some say it is the power of advertising that makes us buy the goods, not the need.
This may be right, but it still remains controversial. Commercial companies use advertisements to increase their reputation in th public, trying to persuade people to buy their goods. This is the basic function of advertising. In deed, a good advertisement which represents the goods properly may lead a rise in sell, and this is not enough, if the form of advertising is gorgerous, and attractive, much more people will be willing to buy the goods and have a try.
So please pay attention, the basic motivation of the consumers is 'try'. That means, most of them are attracted by the advertisement, with a purpose to see how this good is said like the advertisement. Let us assume that all the customers are rational. After buying, if the goods are not as good as the advertisement describes, the consumers will never buy them any more. In the mean while, another advertisement catches their eye, they would turn to the new ones. Consequently, to a large extent, there are many companies advertising in the market, they are always persuading people to buy their goods. It may look like the market is driven by the power of advertising, but on the contrary, it reflects the need of the society. Because for each individuals, they buy only what they need. September 23 Lightning Safety TipsLightning kills as many as 2,000 people worldwide every year. Hundreds more people are struck but survive, usually with lingering and debilitating symptoms. Here are some things you can do to avoid electrical storms or decrease your chances of getting struck. Safety Tips:
(From National Geographic) September 22 Tourism Industry Flying HighTourism industry, as a pollution-free industry, is now largely expanded in the developing countries. Many developing countries like China have proclaimed opening-up policies to encourage this industry, and definitely the outcome is good: thousands of tourists are crowding into these countries every year.
The chief reason that these countries develop the tourism is their economy needs a boost. To a developing country, the economy is the base of every other structures of the society. Since tourism could bring foreign visitors as well as foreign currencies. This could be a large amount of money for the construction and modernization of these countries. So it is the financially beneficial.
Second, tourism is crucial to the culture communication. It introduces the local cultures to the world, as well as brings in the foreign cultures. This is an interchange. Tourism makes the world know more about native people, and makes them to know more about the world. It also helps the elimination of hostility and the development of friendliness and peace. Anyway, it also helps the induction of foreign investments in some respects. It is clear that tourism contributes great to mutual understanding between countries and economic development.
However, there still exist some negative influences while developing tourism. For instance like the environment problems and sustainable development. With the large number of tourists, a heavy burden may add to the local fragile environment. And still, a culture shock may occur along with the increasing indices of economy because people may desert some traditional cultures in the fast progress of modernization.
Anyway the main stream of developing tourism industry is positive, even existing negative problems. With the proper policies and direction, the developing countries may see prosperities. September 19 Could Museums Disappear? To a large extent, I do not believe that public museums and art galleries could be replaced by Internet as the development of technologies.
Museums are the conventional places to reserve historical objects and ancient works for people nowadays to see, while art galleries have the similar functions. Anyway as the rapid development of the Information Technology, with the help of Internet, it is much more convenient for people to see such things even without going out of their houses. They can just stay at home, click the website and enjoy the most famous historical assets and magnificent artworks.
However, people can see what museum exhibits without paying a direct visit does not mean the doom of museums. That is because museums and art galleries are used not only for the enjoyment of tourists, but also for a much wider use. They acquire, conserve, research, communicate and exhibit, for the purposes of study and education. Since museums and art galleries are not used only for tourism, and they could never simply disappear with so much significant utilities. They could commonly be the landscape for a town or a city, attracting tourism. On the contrary, what the Internet gives to museums and art galleries is not reduce but a boost. This is because after people see the pictures of the exhibited objects, what is in their minds is: I really want to see this in myself.
Thus, from what have been discussed above, public museums and art galleries could not be replaced by computer screens, and in the other way round, they will certainly boost with the development of computer. September 16 Mantou or Hamburger? With the fast step of globalization, not only the trade and the communication are in the progress of globalization, but also our daily life is being globalized. Food takes the first place of our life, and many international cuisines are introduced everywhere on the planet. Among these foods, the most popular is the fast food. Many consider fast food an invasion that tries to take the place of traditional food and have a negative effect on both families and societies. But I consider it a mixture of the world culture that pushes the society ahead.
My experience living in China proves that a massive introduction of fast has taken place during the two near decades. As more fast food restaurants like KFC and McDonald’s are opened in the cities, many citizens, especially the young ones, turn to fast food for their daily meals instead of traditional ones. As far as I know, the major customers of these restaurants are students and white collars. This group of people, as I mentioned earlier, are young people who are likely to accept the new things. But this group can be divided into two sub-groups by the purpose of taking fast food.
The students, in most conditions, take the fast food as fashion. They often take fast food not because it is fast, convenient, nutritious, more delicious than the traditional ones, but because it is fashionable – we young people all like do that. On the other hand, the white collars, such as office clerks, I think they really need fast food. Because of their work burden, they cannot afford squeezing much time for waiting for a long-time cooked traditional meal. Time is so important to this group of people, so the fast food would be their best choice.
Although the nutritive value of fast food is largely criticized, I believe it still has its reason to stay in the food market, because it provides more choices for people to choose for their meals. It makes our table more varieties. It is not important to emphasize the replacement and conflict of the international and traditional culture; it is the mixture of culture.

September 02 Fuel CellMuch like the batteries that are found under the hoods of automobiles or in flashlights, a fuel cell converts chemical energy to electrical energy. All fuel cells have the same basic configuration; an electrolyte and two electrodes. But there are different types of fuel cells, based mainly on what kind of electrolyte they use. Many combinations of fuel and oxidant are also possible. The fuel could be diesel or methanol, while air, chlorine, or chlorine dioxide may serve as oxidants. Most fuel cells in use today, however, use hydrogen and oxygen as the chemicals. Fuel cells have three main applications: transportation, portable uses, and stationary installations. In the future, fuel cells could power our cars, with hydrogen replacing the petroleum fuel that is used in most vehicles today. Many vehicle manufacturers are actively researching and developing transportation fuel cell technologies. Stationary fuel cells are the largest, most powerful fuel cells. They are designed to provide a clean, reliable source of on-site power to hospitals, banks, airports, military bases, schools, and homes. Fuel cells can power almost any portable device or machine that uses batteries. Unlike a typical battery, which eventually goes dead, a fuel cell continues to produce energy as long as fuel and oxidant are supplied. Laptop computers, cellular phones, video recorders, and hearing aids could be powered by portable fuel cells. Fuel cells have strong benefits over conventional combustion-based technologies currently used in many power plants and cars. They produce much smaller quantities of greenhouse gases and none of the air pollutants that create smog and cause health problems. If pure hydrogen is used as a fuel, fuel cells emit only heat and water as a byproduct. Hydrogen-powered fuel cells are also far more energy efficient than traditional combustion technologies. The biggest hurdle for fuel cells today is cost. Fuel cells cannot yet compete economically with more traditional energy technologies, though rapid technical advances are being made. Although hydrogen is the most abundant element in the universe, it is difficult to store and distribute. Canisters of pure hydrogen are readily available from hydrogen producers, but as of now, you can't just fill up with hydrogen at a local gas station. Many people do have access to natural gas or propane tanks at their houses, however, so it is likely that these fuels will be used to power future home fuel cells. Methanol, a liquid fuel, is easily transportable, like gasoline, and could be used in automobile fuel cells. However, also like gasoline, methanol produces polluting carbon dioxide. August 17 Electronicin' My Nervs! After attending the IELTS course at New Oriental, not only improving the ability of English, but also the upgrading my ears. My listening section teacher, named Psyche(strange name), who is defintely a music fan, especially an electronic one. Since I have planned to put steps in the field of electronic music, I decided to have a talk with her.
Actually, after the chat, I found she is no mere a fan, but an expert! She is absolutely an experienced music listener. Whatever, because of my tiny database of the electronic music, what mostly she told me was greek to me. Anyway, through her eyes, I knew she is professional. When talking about electronics, she became excited, far more excited than when she was giving a lecture(since she is always excited when doing so). She talked and talkd, and I listened and listened. After all, I took useful notes - what really ELECTONIC! - Time Warp, Orbital, U.N.K.L.E. etc.
However, the electronics seem kind of strange to my ears(perhaps my ears love Metal), but they have already electroniced my nervs. By the way, if you also like ELECTRONICs, e-mail me, I appreciate your experience. May 20 Blizzard Continues the Epic Saga of StarCraftAfter about nine years waiting, the Blizzard Entertainment finally released the news about StarCraft II today, declaring that this game will be released on Christmas this year.(Excitely waiting for that)
There was still an interrogation on the website of Blizzard Entertainment yesterday. But today as I logon the website this noon, the interrogation changed into a symbol of the great coming game: StarCraft II. This is an exciting moment for me as a crazy StarCraft fan. Blizzard's news now eliminates all the rumours about its next great works that will rock the world.
As is said on the official site of Blizzard Entertainment:
"StarCraft II continues the epic saga of the Protoss, Terran, and Zerg. These three distinct and powerful races will clash once again in the fast-paced real-time strategy sequel to the legendary original, StarCraft. Legions of veteran, upgraded, and brand-new unit types will do battle across the galaxy, as each faction struggles for survival. Featuring a unique single-player campaign that picks up where StarCraft: Brood War left off, StarCraft II will present a cast of new heroes and familiar faces in an edgy sci-fi story filled with adventure and intrigue. In addition, Blizzard will again offer unparalleled online play through Battle.net, the company's world-renowned gaming service, with several enhancements and new features to make StarCraft II the ultimate competitive real-time strategy game." My intuition of this case is that this would be the next greatest game of this century that released by Blizzard. Although this game may require an extremely high computer ability, I think I could save up for that. Whatever, let's wait an see. May 12 In the Memory of Metallica and My Bro再一次仔细聆听了Metallica的众多伟大作品以后,今天又回顾了一次mtv special presentation - MTV ICONS - Metallica,在他们的膜拜者的疯狂欢呼中再一次瞻仰了这些神 - James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett, Ron Mcgovney, Jason Curtis Newsted, 以及已故的伟大的bass手 Cliff Lee Burton。
从本次concert的艺人阵容就足以见证Metallica的伟大(原谅我的词汇匮乏,因为Metallica对于我,只有用伟大才可以形容) - Sum 41 ("Master Of Puppets"),Avril Lavigne("Fuel"),Snoop Dogg,Rob Zombie,Tom Delonge(Vocals of "Blink-182"),Chester Bemington(Vocals of "Linkin Park"),Korn("One"),Limp Bizkit("Sanitarium"),还有老反叛Sean Penn也来客串了一下,当然,最后还有icons自己的复出,为fans献上真正的有血有肉的Metallica。
